“There is no revenge so complete as forgiveness” – Josh Billings

A lot of couples make videos of themselves doing it. And they have been doing this ever since the first tape recorder existed, long before the Internet. The first “revenge porn ” may have been when the guy returned the tape of them doing it to the video store “by accident.”

OK, I know I’m going to get blasted by all the guys who are going to say, “Well, guys can be victims of revenge porn too.” They can, but this isn’t to say they ever are. Revenge porn is when sexually explicit material about a woman is revealed without her consent with the objective of causing her distress, the perpetrator most often being a former partner.

Why should you care? Turns out it’s not illegal. Anyone is free to distribute sexually explicit material online as long as it doesn’t feature minors and does not target them. With regard to the latter, it is up to the medium to enforce the policy, so there isn’t too much trouble there either.

Revenge porn is not uncommon, and this is also why you shouldn’t think it’s the end of the world if it has happened to you. There is so much sexually explicit material online that even if your leaked antics with a partner who turned out to be less than conscientious do reach someone in your circle, chances are they’ll forget about them very soon. You have nothing to be ashamed of. The guy is the one who should be. You thought he could be trusted and you made a mistake. Forgiving really is the best revenge – nothing will hurt him more than knowing you couldn’t care less about him and the “moments” you shared.
